Rough Rice Stocks Inch UpwardWASHINGTON - Jan 11/08 - SNS -- Rough rice stocks in all positions in the United States on December 1, 2007, totaled 151 million hundredweight (cwt -- 100 pound units), up 1% from the total on December 1, 2006, according to the USDA. Stocks held on farms totaled 48.3 million cwt, and off-farm stocks totaled 103 million cwt. Long grain varieties accounted for 68% of the total rough rice, medium grain accounted for 29%, and short grain varieties accounted for 3%. Milled rice stocks in all positions totaled 5.27 million cwt, up 32% from a year ago. Milled rice stocks were comprised of 3.69 million cwt of whole kernel rice and 1.58 million cwt of second heads, screenings, and brewers rice.
