USDA National Grain Review

ST. JOSEPH - Jan 4/08 - SNS -- The USDA issued its latest weekly national grain market review, covering the period through Jan 4.


WEEKLY NATIONAL GRAIN MARKET REVIEW

   Grain and soybean bids started the New Year moderate to sharply higher for
the week.  Wheat saw solid gains due to good export demand, tight supplies, and
strong outside markets.  The higher wheat market also spilled over to other
grains.  Corn closed in positive territory as weather concerns in Argentina,
strong demand, and higher oil triggered the strength.  Weakness in the U.S.
dollar is also lending support to grains.  Soybeans surged on higher crude oil
and strength in palm oil.  The lows in the Plains and Midwest during the week
were in the single digits to below zero degrees.  The same front moved into the
deep south with temperatures dropping below the freezing point.  Wheat was
mostly 21-47 cents higher.  Yellow corn was 6-11 cents higher.  Sorghum was 19-
21 cents higher.  Soybeans were 30-43 cents higher.

   WHEAT:  Kansas City US No 1 Hard Red Winter, ordinary protein rail bid was 21
1/2 to 25 1/2 cents higher from 9.60 1/2-10.23 1/2 per bushel.  Kansas City US
No 2 Soft Red Winter rail bid was 31 1/2 cents higher from 9.70 1/2-10.05 1/2
per bushel.  St. Louis truck US No 2 Soft Red Winter terminal bid was 45 cents
higher at 8.75 per bushel.  Minneapolis and Duluth US No 1 Dark Northern Spring,
14.0 to 14.5 percent protein rail, was 37 to 47 cents higher from 11.70 3/4-
11.85 3/4 per bushel.  Portland US Soft White wheat rail was steady to 15 cents
higher from 13.00-13.30 per bushel.

   CORN:  Kansas City US No 2 rail White Corn was 9 to 16 cents higher from
4.75-4.85 per bushel.  Kansas City US No 2 truck Yellow Corn was 11 cents higher
at 4.51 per bushel.  Omaha US No 2 truck Yellow Corn was 11 cents higher from
4.47-4.50 per bushel.  Chicago US No 2 Yellow Corn was 6 1/4 to 11 1/4 cents
higher from 4.31-4.59 per bushel.  Toledo US No 2 rail Yellow corn was 11 1/4
cents higher from 4.51-4.53 per bushel.  Minneapolis US No 2 Yellow Corn rail
was 11 1/4 cents higher at 4.27 per bushel.

   OATS AND BARLEY:  US 2 or Better oats, rail bid to arrive at Minneapolis 20
day was 16 1/2 cents higher from 3.28 1/2-3.30 1/2 per bushel. US No 3 or better
rail malting Barley, 70 percent or better plump out of Minneapolis was 5 cents
higher at 6.75 per bushel.  Portland US 2 Barley, unit trains and Barges-export
was steady to 5 cents higher from 12.80-12.90 per cwt.

   SORGHUM:  US No 2 yellow truck, Kansas City was 19 cents higher at 7.96 per
cwt.  Texas High Plains US No 2 yellow sorghum (prices paid or bid to the
farmer, fob elevator) was 20 to 21 cents higher from 7.48-7.69 per cwt.

OILSEEDS:  Minneapolis Yellow truck soybeans, no bid available.  Illinois
Processors US No 1 Yellow truck soybeans were 41 to 43 cents higher from 12.17
1/2-12.30 1/2 per bushel.  Kansas City US No 2 Yellow truck soybeans were 30
cents higher at 11.77 per bushel.  Central Illinois 48 percent Soybean meal,
processor rail bid was 6.70 to 12.70 higher from 340.60-342.60 per ton.  Central
Illinois crude Soybean oil processor bid was 144 to 169 points higher from
48.18-49.68 cents per pound.  Sunflower Oil was not available.
