THOMASVILLE PECAN REPORT
GEORGIA (via Thomasville, Georgia)
Deliveries by growers since December 28 were moderate to fairly heavy
from producers of non-managed orchards, light from producers of well
managed orchards. Demand was moderate. Prices paid to growers were
about steady on offerings from non-managed orchards. There were
sufficient deliveries of offerings from well managed orchards on January
02 and 03. This recent trading activity indicates an about steady
market as well compared to prices reported prior to the holidays.
Harvest activities during the prior weekend and the current week were
confined primarily to yard tree gathering in the non-managed orchards.
There was very little gathering noted by producers of well managed
orchards. Rainfall was frequently received over the past seven days and
cold temperatures moved into the area on Wednesday, January 02.
Buying interest displayed by end users was fairly light. There were
less buyers expressing a desire to purchase supplies. Trading was slow
on fairly light offerings from the well managed orchards. These
offerings were primarily harvested prior to the holidays and sold from
centralized cleaning plants. The majority of the buying stations noted
very few deliveries of machine harvested and graded offerings.
Offerings f.o.b. the orchard were very light as well.
Purchases of pecans from well managed orchards were overall light but
there was an improvement noted in the overall volume compared to the
prior released report. Purchases on machine harvested blends of
Improved varieties were obtained on a meat cost basis in a wide range
according to meat yield and unit count per pound. Lots yielding 44-47%
meat yield with good unit count per pound were purchased mostly in the
range of $2.10-2.15 per point. Lower and higher yielding lots were also
transacted but there was too wide a range in prices to establish
accurate market levels.
Prices paid to growers (Friday afternoon, December 28 thru noon
Thursday, January 03) at buyers delivery point cents per pound in-shell
of generally good quality in lots primarily less than 5,000 pounds unless
otherwise stated.
Desirable yard tree lots of generally good quality 70-75 occasional
lower and higher
Moneymaker yard tree lots of generally good quality 40-50 occasional
machine harvested and graded lots higher
Schley yard tree lots of generally good quality 65-70 occasional lower

pounds mostly 55-60 some 65. Dealer and accumulator lots to end users in
excess of 10,000 pounds 42-44% meat yield purchased on the meat cost
basis of $1.80-1.85 per point occasional lower
