Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 1/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary
Fire Weather Warning: Fire danger will be extreme in the Mallee district today.
Current Weather Situation and Future Developments
A low pressure trough will linger over northern Victoria during today and
Thursday. A high pressure system south of Western Australia will move eastwards,
crossing Tasmania during Thursday to reach the Tasman Sea on Friday.  Another
low pressure trough will move into western Victoria on Saturday.
Victoria
Wednesday:    Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the east, mainly about the
ranges. Fine elsewhere. Warm to hot in the north, milder in the south. Moderate
southerly winds freshening in the afternoon.
Fire Danger: High to very high in the north, reaching extreme in the northwest.
UV Index:     13 [Extreme] reducing to 8 [Very high] under cloud.
Thursday:     Isolated morning drizzle near the coast. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms in central and eastern districts, mainly about the ranges. Warm to
hot inland, milder near the coast. Moderate east to southeasterly winds, fresh
at times about the coast.
Friday:       Fine apart from morning fogs in the east and isolated showers and
thunderstorms over the eastern ranges. Warm to hot.
Saturday:     Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms about the eastern
ranges and also developing in the west later. Hot ahead of an afternoon change
