Chickpea Area at Issue for 2008VANCOUVER - Dec 21/07 - SNS -- International chickpea markets finished the week on a quiet note, with numerous market participants fully engaged in Christmas and New Years holiday celebrations by Friday. Even so, some disquiet persists in markets as they try to get a handle on the amount of chickpeas which are being sown this rabi season in India as well as acreage prospects for Mexico, Turkey, Canada and the United States for 2008. Local traders in India suggest kabuli chickpea seedings could go up this year because prices are strongly competitive with potential returns from desi type chickpeas and wheat.
