Fababean Production Sets Recent LowWINNIPEG - Dec 18/07 - SNS -- Broadbean and fababean production around the world has dropped to its lowest level of the most recent five year period according to a recent report by Agriculture Canada pulse and special crop market analyst Stan Skrypetz. Production is currently estimated at 4.65 million metric tons (MT), down from 5.115 million last year, 4.989 million in 2005 and 4.94 million MT in 2004. China is the world's most important producer, growing 2 million MT this year, down from 2.1 million in 2006 but up from the 1.804 million grown in 2005. Adverse growing conditions helped push the United Kingdom from being the world's number two producer into third spot being Ethiopia. Output in the United Kingdom plunged from 613,000 to 344,000 MT: while production in Ethiopia declined from 599,000 to 550,000 MT. Egypt is the world's fourth largest producer and one its most important importers, growing 320,000 MT this year, up from 315,000 in 2006.
