Slow Seeding Progress in IndiaVANCOUVER - Dec 14/07 - SNS -- International field pea markets are starting to pay closer attention to the rabi or winter pulse seeding progress in India this year. Rabi or winter season chickpea seedings are down in India so far this season, with farmers having managed to plant 7.076 million hectares as of December 14, compared to 7.595 million at this time last year. Total pulse area is down from 12.146 at 11.349 million hectares. The decline in pulse coverage reflects a general decline in rabi season plantings in the country. Wheat planting progress has dropped from 23.448 to 20.632 million hectares; while rice slipped from 258,000 at 252,000 hectares; coarse cereal grains dropped from 6.174 to 6.038 million; total oilseeds sank from 8.729 to 7.739 million hectares; and mustard/rapeseed coverage to date has fallen from 6.427 to 5.725 million hectares.
