Thai Rice Markets EaseBANGKOK - Dec 9/07 - SNS -- Last month's efforts by Thailand's government to sell rice accumulated under its price support programs put a damper on domestic and export prices for the country, notes the U.S. agricultural attache in a report on the country's rice sector. "Although prices are high for some African buyers, enquiries from South American countries are picking up as Thai rice prices are relatively more attractive than U.S. rice prices. "Domestic and export prices increased marginally by 1 to 2% as last week's rumored release of intervention stocks was confirmed on Wednesday, November 28, by a Government announcement of a tender for 511,730 MT of 5% grade white rice from old-crop intervention stocks for exports," the agricultural attache said.
