Desi Chickpeas BusierVANCOUVER - Dec 7/07 - SNS -- International chickpea markets maintained their value in relatively light trading interest for kabulis and ongoing demand from India for desi chickpeas. Markets were unaffected by the fact Canada's chickpea harvest ended up 4.6% higher than expected at 224,800 MT. Production by class was up 31.5% at 31,300 MT for desi chickpeas; down 6.3% at 130,100 MT for kabuli chickpeas; and up 223% at 63,400 for "other" classes of chickpeas. The other category includes 7mm caliber chickpea varieties such as B-90s and Chicos and may include desi and kabuli. This summer's carry in was 10,000 MT, down from an official 13,000 last year.
