Canadian Field Pea Exports SurgeVANCOUVER - Dec 3/07 - SNS -- Canadian field pea exports surged ahead of last year in November, lifting shipments for the first four months of the 2007-08 marketing year 17% ahead of last year, according to data reported by members of the Canadian Ports Clearance Association. Clearances at terminals reporting to the association totalled 772,728 metric tons (MT) between August and November. This compares to 660,627 MT last year and is 7.4% below the record 834,787 MT shipped during the first four months of the 2005-06 marketing campaign. Massive increases in export shipments of food quality peas to the Indian subcontinent is the key reason Canadian field pea exports are able to maintain volumes even though feed pea shipments to Spain and other European buyers have plunged.
