Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Dec 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings are current for the Warrego and Paroo Rivers. STATE FORECAST for the rest of Sunday and Monday Showers and thunderstorms over the southeast and eastern coastal districts, shifting to the far west on Monday. Thunderstorms becoming more numerous about the Gulf Country late on Monday. Scattered showers about the southeast coast. Light to moderate W to NW winds across the northern tropics with light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. A very high fire danger over the northwest and Cape York Peninsula. EXTENDED OUTLOOK On Monday, a new trough system is expected to reach western Queensland, bringing isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms to the south, but more scattered to widespread activity over the tropics as very moist air is drawn in from the north. The trough will extend through central districts into the middle of next week with showers and thunderstorms covering eastern parts from the tropics to the southern interior. It will become fine in the west during the first half of next week following the trough's passage. NW winds will increase across the northern tropics and the Gulf waters on Monday and Tuesday ahead of the trough, bringing very moist air southwards into the far northwest, and leading to widespread showers and thunderstorms, tending to rain areas during the night hours. The instability axis and shower and thunderstorm activity should shift slowly eastwards during the middle of the week, eventually reaching the south coast late on Wednesday. By late in the week, an upper ridge will become established over the centre of the state, with a significant reduction in shower and thunderstorm activity over southern parts. Temperatures will remain hot in the northwest, decreasing from Tuesday as cloud --- STAT News Service
