Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Dec 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 UPDATED WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings are current for the Warrego and Paroo Rivers. Strong Wind Warning for coastal waters Yeppoon to Sandy Cape. STATE FORECAST for Saturday night and Sunday Fine over the west of the state. Showers and thunderstorms over most eastern districts, tending more widespread with areas of rain with moderate to locally heavy falls about the coast and adjacent inland from St Lawrence to Bundaberg, although easing during Sunday. A few showers about the southeast coast. Light to moderate W to NW winds across the northern tropics with light to moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere. A very high fire danger over the northwest and Cape York Peninsula. EXTENDED OUTLOOK On Monday, a new trough system is expected to reach western queensland, bringing isolated afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms to the south, but more scattered to widespread activity over the tropics as very moist air is drawn in from the north. The trough will hover over the west of the state into the middle of next week along with the showers and thunderstorms from the tropics to the southern interior. NW winds will increase across the northern tropics and the Gulf waters on Monday and Tuesday ahead of the trough. Into the middle of next week, this trough system will spread the shower and thunderstorm activity further east, possibly reaching the southeast coast by late Wednesday or Thursday.
