Cattle on Feed Drops 2 Percent in U.S.WASHINGTON - Nov 16/07 - SNS -- Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the United States for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head came in at 11.8 million head on November 1, 2007, judging from the latest USDA report. The inventory was 2% below November 1, 2006 but 3% above November 1, 2005. Placements in feedlots during October totalled 2.72 million, 12% above 2006 but 3% below 2005. Net placements were 2.67 million head. During October, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 pounds were 855,000, 600-699 pounds were 745,000, 700-799 pounds were 556,000, and 800 pounds and greater were 560,000. Marketings of fed cattle during October totalled 1.88 million, 6% above 2006 and 8% above 2005. Other disappearance totalled 47,000 during October, 42% below 2006 and 19% below 2005.
