Moderate Selling in ChickpeasVANCOUVER - Nov 2/07 - SNS -- International chickpea markets finished the week's trading on a mixed note, with some harvest selling pressure noted in desi chickpea markets in Australia, while kabuli chickpeas were mostly steady in limited trading interest. The availability of new crop product in Australia, saw grower bids in the country slip to around A$560 per metric ton (MT) for farmers dressed product delivered interior collection points. Opening season export movement is expected to be good as shippers take advantage of the gap between the Australian harvest and the availability of new crop product from the rabi or winter season harvest in India and Pakistan. The Australian government revised its crop production forecasts for major grains and oilseed during the week, slashing forecast output because "seasonal conditions deteriorated over the critical September–October period, with little or no worthwhile rain and continued above average temperatures. . . . Areas particularly affected have been parts of South Australia, northern Victoria and New South Wales." Subscribers can read the full text of the article by Clicking here
