Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Nov 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for Thursday night and Friday Patchy rain and thunderstorms in a broad band from central parts of western Queensland through southern border districts to the southeast. Isolated showers about the southern Gulf today, with showers and thunderstorms developing on Friday afternoon. Isolated showers about the northeast tropical coast. Fine elsewhere. Moderate SE winds over the far northern and eastern tropics. Generally moderate NE/N winds elsewhere. A high to very high fire danger for North Tropical Coast & Tablelands, Northern Goldfields & Upper Flinders, and the Northwest districts. EXTENDED OUTLOOK During the weekend an upper trough will move across the Great Australian Bight and into eastern Australia. The cloud and rain band over the west and southern inland of the state will move eastwards over the weekend and pass off the southern coast during Monday. Isolated thunderstorms will develop within this band during the weekend, becoming scattered about the southern border ranges. A dry W/SW change and trough system will move across inland Qld over the weekend and along the far southern coast late Monday. Ridging will then develop along the coast in the wake of the change or trough and spread along the remaining east coast during Tuesday as a large high moves slowly eastwards across waters south of Australia. So fresh SE winds will become entrenched along the east coast during the early part of next week. These SE winds will direct showers onto the exposed parts of the east coast. As the ridge builds, the trough will slip inland and a few storms will develop in its vicinity especially over --- STAT News Service
