Rising Red Meat Inventories
WASHINGTON - Oct 22/07 - SNS -- Total red meat supplies in freezers rose 26.2 million pounds in September to 983.7 million pounds, up 1% from the previous year, notes the USDA in its latest report on agricultural products in cold storage.
Frozen pork supplies rose 20 million pounds during the month to 478.1 million pounds, up almost 20 million pounds from the previous year. Stocks of pork bellies were down 20% from last month at 17.1 million pounds and up 67% from last year.
Supplies of beef were down 1% from year earlier levels at 486.9 million pounds, up around 7 million pounds from the previous month.
