Record Pea Exports in SeptemberVANCOUVER - Oct 5/07 - SNS -- Canadian specialty crop exports set a new record the month of September and recorded the second best month on record, judging from data available from the Canadian Ports Clearance Association. The single month record belongs to October, 2005 at 331,159 metric tons (MT). Shipments for the opening two months of the marketing year are a record 392,629 MT, compared to just under 300,000 tons the previous two years. Shipping momentum began to pick and maintained itself through September, with 13 vessels loaded with field peas at Vancouver and Thunder Bay. October is getting off to a good start, with five vessels currently nominated to load or loading peas at both ports. Thunder Bay saw some activity in September, with four ships loaded with 37,6120 MT of peas during the month. A total of nine ships loaded 257,969 MT of peas at Vancouver.
