Ottawa Puts Cash in Ethanol Plant
OTTAWA - Oct 4/07 - SNS -- The federal government's ecoAgriculture Biofuels Capital (ecoABC) program will invest $5 million in a new ethanol plant at Unity, Saskatchewan.
Area farmers have also invested $12 million in the facility. The plant is expected to cost $38 million to build and is expected to process 68,000 metric tons (MT) of wheat to produce up to 25,250,000 liters of biofuels annually.
The plant is scheduled to begin production in September 2008. It will be constructed and operated by North West Bio Energy Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of North West Terminal Ltd. The new plant will be located adjacent to North West Terminal’s inland grain terminal in Unity.
The ecoABC is a $200 million, four-year program that provides repayable contributions for the construction or expansion of transportation biofuel production facilities. Funding is conditional upon agricultural producer investment in the biofuel projects and the use of agricultural feedstock to produce the biofuel.
