CWB Initials To IncreaseOTTAWA - Oct 2/07 - SNS -- The Canadian government has finally approved a Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) request for an increase in initial payments for wheat, durum and barley. After criticizing the CWB for waiting until August 15 to make the request, Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz accepted no fault for taking another seven weeks to approve the change even though Ritz said "it was already clear that commodity prices were rising" the beginning of August. Ritz said the seven week delay resulted from his decision to "expedite the CWB's request for an initial price increase."
