Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Oct 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary:
Current at 7pm Monday: Strong Wind Warning for Coastal Waters south of Green
Cape. Severe Weather Warning for locally damaging winds for Alpine areas above
1500 metres overnight. A Fire Weather Warning for Very High to Extreme Fire
Danger for the Sydney Metropolitan, Hunter and Central West Slopes and Plains.
Refer to Fire Weather Warning for the latest Rural Fire Service Total Fire Ban
information.
Current Weather Situation and Future Developments:
A high pressure ridge extends across northern New South Wales. A vigorous
westerly airstream covers southeast Australia. Dry weather is expected to
persist over the state through the week as a series of cold fronts move across
the Southern Ocean. A significant cold front should move through the west and
south of New South Wales on Wednesday. The main effect will be increasingly
warmer and stronger northwesterly winds ahead of a milder gusty south to
southwest change. Little if any precipitation is likely with the front.
Forecast for Tuesday
Fine. Warm to hot. Mainly moderate winds, southwest to southeast in the east,
northwest in the west.
Fire danger: Very High for the Northern Rivers, North West Slopes and Plains and
the Central West Slopes and Plains.
Forecast for Wednesday
Hot and windy over most of the state. Some very isolated showers developing on
the Alps, otherwise fine. Fresh to strong and gusty northwest to southwest
winds, with a late southerly change extending north along the coast.
Forecast for Thursday
Fine. Warm to hot in the north, milder in the south. Southwest to southeast
winds, tending northwest to northeast in the south.
Forecast for Friday
Fine. Warm northwest to northeast winds.
