No 2008 Crop Cotton Quotas in USWASHINGTON - Sep 25/07 - SNS -- The USDA will set no marketing quota or acreage allotments for 2008-crop cotton. The determination is required by provisions of the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1938. Under provisions of the 1938 act, USDA must announce a national marketing quota by Oct. 15 when USDA determines that the total supply of cotton for the current marketing year (Aug. 1, 2007 - July 31, 2008) will exceed the normal supply. Normal supply is defined as estimated domestic consumption plus estimated exports plus an allowance of an additional 30% for carry-over. Based on the latest available data, the total supply of cotton does not exceed normal supply. Therefore, neither a marketing quota nor acreage allotments are required for the 2008 cotton crop.
