USDA Allows SAF and Uruguay BlueberriesWASHINGTON - Sep 18/07 - SNS -- The USDA will allow imports of commercially shipped fresh blueberries from South Africa and Uruguay under certain conditions. To ensure plant pests do not enter the United States through the importation of this commodity, APHIS is requiring that the blueberries undergo cold treatment and be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate issued by the national plant protection organization of the exporting country. This action will allow for the importation of blueberries into the United States from South Africa and Uruguay while protecting against the introduction of plant pests. The final rule also formally recognizes cold treatment as an approved quarantine treatment for fresh blueberries imported into the United States from Argentina. Notice of this final rule is scheduled for publication in the Sept. 17, 2007 Federal Register.
