Sharp Reduction in Specialty Ending StocksVANCOUVER - Sep 11/07 - SNS -- The 2006-07 marketing year ended with a steep decline in residual supplies of specialty crops grown in western Canada. Season ending stocks on farms were based on Statistics Canada survey of 17,300 farm operators across Canada between July 27 and August 5. Commercial stocks were based on available data from the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) and a season ending survey of handlers and agents. Total supplies of lentils, field peas, chickpeas, sunflower, mustard and canaryseed as of July 31 were 589,000 metric tons (MT), down from 1.335 million last year and 1.264 million two years ago. Specialty crops on farms in western Canada totalled 405,000 MT, down from 1.095 million MT last year and 857,000 MT two years ago.
