Bulk Pea Exports Gaining MomentumVANCOUVER - Sep 5/07 - SNS -- Canadian specialty crop exports were clearing gearing up as August progressed, judging from data available from the Canadian Ports Clearance Association, with only one break bulk vessels loaded at Canadian ports the first half of the month. This matched last season's initial performance, but lagged well behind the seven vessels loaded with field peas and some lentils in August of 2005-06, the season in which Canada shipped a record 1.775 million metric tons (MT) of field peas and specialty crops from licensed terminals reporting to the Ports Clearance Association. Shipping momentum picked up the last half of August, with two vessels cleared from Vancouver and another two being loaded at Vancouver and Thunder Bay. This was one ship better than last year. In fact, total tonnage loaded in August ended up at 97,050 MT, up from 68,755 MT last year, and down from the record 195,104 MT loaded the same month in 2005.
