WCE August Volumes RisesWINNIPEG - Sep 4/07 - SNS -- Trading volume on the Winnipeg Commodity Exchange (WCE) continued to increase above year earlier levels in August, rising 16.4% to 205,376 contracts. Canola futures contract volume of trade during August rose 24.8% from a year ago to 181,145 contracts. Trade in options on canola futures contracts soared to 88.8% over that of August 2006 at 1,042 options contracts. Trade in western barley futures contracts totaled 20,457 contracts during August 2007. While this level of trade is lower than a year ago, it is 83.5% higher than a month ago. There were also 50 western barley options contracts traded. Feed wheat futures volume for August was 2,682 contracts. At the end of August 2007 futures and options total open interest stood at 131,278 contracts representing an increase of 30.7% from a year ago.
