Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Sep 2/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY STATE FORECAST for Monday Isolated showers along most of the east coast districts, extending to adjacent inland areas and eastern parts of the Central Highlands and Darling Downs during the afternoon. Fine elsewhere, with high cloud increasing in the west and north during the day. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast north of Fraser Island. Generally light to moderate E to NE winds elsewhere over the state, with freshening SE winds in the SW during the day. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high over the Tasman Sea will continue to move eastwards and move well past New Zealand by Tuesday. An upper trough will amplify across south-eastern Australia during Monday and Tuesday and move off the coast by late Wednesday. This upper trough will produce increasing cloud and rain areas for southern central and eastern districts, south from about the Bowen area and east of Charleville during Tuesday. Isolated thunderstorms are also expected inland during Tuesday and Wednesday. The rain and cloud band will contract east during Wednesday and clear the coast early Thursday. Isolated moderate falls may occur about the Capricornia and Wide Bay coasts and adjacent inland areas. A vigorous front will move northwards along the southern coast during Tuesday resulting in strong to gale S to SE winds developing. The following ridge will reinforce the preexisting ridge along the east tropical coast resulting in winds freshening along the remainder of the east coast overnight Tuesday and Wednesday. Showers will continue along most of the east coast into the latter part of the week. Over the west of the state conditions will continue fine. Given the trajectory of the flow, temperatures across most of the state will drop to below average during the middle part of the week. --- STAT News Service
