Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Sep 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters from Torres Strait to Cooktown. STATE FORECAST for Sunday Isolated showers along the east coast north of about Yeppoon. Fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the east coast north of Fraser Island. Generally light to moderate E to NE winds elsewhere over the state. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high over the Tasman Sea will continue to move eastwards and move well past New Zealand by Tuesday. So the ridge along most of the east coast will continue to weaken during Monday and Tuesday with winds shifting to the NE along the southern coast and the SE trade flow relaxing further along the east tropical coast. However, showers will continue in the onshore stream along the entire east coast. The next upper trough will amplify across south-eastern Australia during Monday and Tuesday and move off the coast by late Wednesday. This upper trough will produce increasing middle to high cloud over most eastern and southern districts of the state during Monday and Tuesday. So expect rain areas to develop over eastern districts and the adjacent inland south from about the Bowen to Mackay area during Tuesday morning. This rain and cloud band will then clear the coast Wednesday morning. Isolated moderate falls may occur about the Capricornia and Wide Bay coasts and adjacent inland areas. A vigorous front will move northwards along the southern coast during Tuesday resulting in fresh to strong S to SE winds developing. The following ridge will reinforce the preexisting ridge along the east tropical coast resulting in winds freshening along this section of coast overnight Tuesday and Wednesday. So showers will continue along most of the east coast into the latter part of the week. Over the west of the state conditions will continue fine. Given the trajectory of the flow temperatures across most of the state will be drop to below average during --- STAT News Service
