Peas Strong on Tightening CapacityVANCOUVER - Aug 31/07 - SNS -- Field pea markets remain relatively strong in North America despite ready availability of new crop product in both Canada and the United States. Opening season movement of field peas is strong in Canada, with exporters moving product to port to meet around 142,000 metric tons (MT) of vessels nominated to lift product during the first half of September. Clearances for the entire month totalled 228,564 MT last year, versus 104,295 MT in 2005. It remains to be seen how many ships will be nominated for the last half of the month at Vancouver. But, grower deliveries to the primary elevator system have been excellent so far this season, The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) reports 105,700 MT were delivered between August 19 and 25, lifting deliveries for the month to 337,000 MT peas up 39,200 from 297,800 MT last year.
