South Africa Beans Under PressureVANCOUVER - Aug 28/07 - SNS -- Pulse production in South Africa is down sharply this year and is starting 2008 on a negative pave, judging from the latest crop production estimates from the South African Grain Information Service (SAGIS). In its final winter production estimate for 2007, it pegged dry edible bean output at 39,545 metric tons (MT), down 41% from last year and the smallest crop since the dismal 35,004 MT harvest of 1991. In its first estimate of 2008 summer production levels, SAGIS forecast lupin output at just 10,000 MT from 10,000 hectares, down from 4,400 MT from 16,000 hectares this year.
