Markets Ignore Canada's Chickpea ForecastVANCOUVER - Aug 24/07 - SNS -- International chickpea markets were not concerned by Statistics Canada's forecast that output in that country could jump from 163,200 to 216,900 metric tons (MT) this year. With a relatively small carryin from the 2006-07 marketing year, Canada could be looking at an available supply of chickpeas of 227,900 MT in 2007-08, up 55,000 MT from last season. Early seeded crops are being harvested across western Canada and while general quality is acceptable, processors say there will be a smaller than normal percentage of 10mm and 9mm kabuli chickpeas harvested this year.
