Yellow Pea Food Aid Cards DealtVANCOUVER - Aug 24/07 - SNS -- The latest round USDA PL-480 food aid tenders added considerable strength to opening season yellow peas markets in the United States and Canada. Actual and prospective purchases of whole and yellow split peas from processors in the United States now total 22,580 metric tons (MT), up from 14,680 MT at this time last year. Processors in the United States could be called upon to move 18,310 MT of mainly yellow split peas in October. There are two pulse tenders currently outstanding, one for 7,980 MT and the other for 6,340 MT. Opening season food aid demand for green peas is also up from last year, with the latest tender for 710 MT lifting actual and prospective purchases to 8,980 MT for September and October, up from 2,440 MT for the same period last year.
