Red Meat Inventories Rise
WASHINGTON - Aug 22/07 - SNS -- Total red meat supplies in freezers rose 29 million pounds in July to 947.3 million pounds, up 3% from the previous year, notes the USDA in its latest report on agricultural products in cold storage.
Frozen pork supplies fell 2% during the month to 459.8 million pounds, up almost 42 million pounds from the previous year. Stocks of pork bellies were down 33% from last month at 31.5 million pounds and up 3% from last year.
Supplies of beef were down 2% from year earlier levels at 467.5 million pounds, up around 38 million pounds from the previous month.
