Turkey Hatchery Activity IncreasesWASHINGTON - Aug 14/07 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity increased in the United States in July, with eggs in incubators and poults hatching rising above year earlier levels, according to the latest USDA numbers. Turkey eggs in incubators on August 1, 2007 in the United States totaled 33.5 million, up 9% from August 1, 2006. Eggs in incubators were up 1% from the July 1, 2007 total of 33.3 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central up 1% at 5,036,000 eggs; West North Central up 7% at 12,808,000; North and South Atlantic up 15% at 10,876,000; and South Central and West up 7% at 4,819,000 eggs in incubators. Turkey poults hatched during July 2007 in the United States totaled 27.3 million, up 4% from July 2006. Poults hatched were up 2% from the June 2007 total of 26.7 million poults.
