Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Aug 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary:
Severe Weather Warning for Alpine areas above 1900 metres of the ACT, Southern
Tablelands and South West Slopes.
Current Weather Situation and Future Developments:
A cloud band will thicken in the far northwest ahead of a cold front which is
expected to reach the southwest of the state during the evening. The combination
of these will see rain develop in the far northwest tomorrow, extending
eastwards and southwards later in the day or overnight, and then contracting to
the northeast of NSW during Friday. Most areas, apart from the far northeast,
should receive steady rain on either Thursday or Friday. A high pressure ridge
will move into the state over the weekend, with fine weather resuming over most
of NSW apart from the far southern inland.
Forecast for Thursday
Patchy rain developing in the far northwest, increasing and extending south to
the Victorian border and eastwards to the southern and central ranges by late in
the day or overnight. Fine elsewhere, though with increasing cloud. Mild to warm
north to northwest winds.
Forecast for Friday
Areas of rain clearing from the southwest during the day and becoming
concentrated along the western slopes, ranges and most of the adjacent coast.
Remaining fine in the far northeast. Snow on the Alps and on higher parts of the
Southern Ranges. A cooler west to southwest change extending into the northeast
late in the day.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers on and west of the ranges over the southern half, with snow
showers over higher parts of the Southern Ranges. Fine elsewhere. Colder
southwest winds throughout.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers on the southern slopes and Riverina, falling as snow on the
Alps. Fine remainder. Southwest winds.
