Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Aug 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for the rest of Wednesday and Thursday Fine almost throughout. Isolated light showers about the east tropical coast north of Cardwell, extending south to the Whitsundays on Thursday. Some high cloud spreading across the far south, but no rainfall. Generally warmer over the interior. Moderate SE to E winds over the far northern tropics. Mostly light to moderate NE to NW winds elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The weather will remain fine over nearly all of the state through into next week. A cold front will enter the southwest late on Thursday, progressing eastwards on Friday, and then move off the southern coast on Saturday. The associated upper trough will generate a band of high cloud, possibly producing some very light rain about the southern border during Friday, before clearing offshore on Saturday. Warm N to NW winds will precede this change and lead to increasing fire dangers over southern districts. In the wake of the front a new high will move slowly into southeastern Australia. Isolated showers will occur along parts of the east tropical coast during Thursday and Friday but this activity will contract northwards onto Cape York Peninsula during Saturday as the onshore flow weakens from the south. The new high will dominate the weather across the state from Saturday onwards as it moves only slowly eastwards. Conditions will remain dry in most areas with temperatures near or slightly below average. Frosts will return to the southeast --- STAT News Service
