Peas and Lentils Off 13% in U.S.VANCOUVER - Jul 13/07 - SNS -- Field pea and lentil seedings in the United States are down almost 13% from last year at an estimated 1.34 million acres, according to updated acreage estimates from the USDA, which also expects this year's harvested area to end up around 1.144 million acres. All the major producing states reported a net decline in pea and lentil area. The smallest net decrease was in Montana, where combined area slipped 4% to 368,00 acres this year;; while the U.S. Pacific Northwest reported a 9% decrease to 223,500 acres; and North Dakota experienced a 19% cut in seeded area to 620,000 acres. Most of the reduction was recorded by lentils, which sank 29% from 429,000 to 305,000 acres; while field pea seedings are off 5% at 879,500 acres; and austrian winter peas down 41% at 27,000 acres.
