Modest Decline in Dairy Product OutputWASHINGTON - Jul 3/07 -0 SNS -- Dairy product output was slightly lower in may, judging from the latest USDA data. Total cheese output (excluding cottage cheese) was 820 million pounds, slightly below May 2006 but 2.2% above April 2007. Italian type cheese production totaled 349 million pounds, 3.3% above May 2006 and 1.1% above April 2007. American type cheese production totaled 332 million pounds, 4.2% below May 2006 but 1.8% above April 2007. Butter production was 125 million pounds, 2.8% below May 2006 and 7.0% below April 2007. Dry Milk Powders: (comparisons with May 2006): Nonfat dry milk, human --- 116 million pounds, down 12.9%; and Skim milk powders --- 13.0 million pounds, down 34.3%.
