Few Changes in Chickpeas
VANCOUVER - Jun 29/07 - SNS -- North American chickpea markets ended the week little changed in light trading activity.
Markets were somewhat surprised by the latest USDA stocks in all positions estimates. The USDA reported total chickpea stocks were up significantly from last year, jumping from 170,000 to 377,000 cwt (100 pound units).
Small chickpeas were up 18% at 47,000 cwt and large chickpeas were up 154% at 330,000 cwt. Small chickpeas are defined as peas that will pass through a 20/64 inch round hole screen.
