Increased Turkey hatchery ActivityWASHINGTON - Jun 14/07 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity in the United States was generally higher in April, according to the latest USDA data. Turkey eggs in incubators on June 1, 2007, in the United States totaled 32.5 million, up 2% from June 1, 2006. Eggs in incubators were down 1% from the May 1, 2007 total of 32.9 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down 3% at 4,825,000; West North Central up 2% at 12,202,000; North and South Atlantic up 4% at 10,692,000; and South Central and West up 4% at 4,740,000 eggs in incubators. Turkey poults hatched during May 2007, in the United States totaled 27.4 million, up 5% from May 2006. Poults hatched were up 4% from April 2007 total of 26.4 million poults.
