Increased World Canaryseed SupplyVANCOUVER - Jun 8/07 - SNS -- International canaryseed production will likely be up 23% over last season at 193,000 metric tons (MT), according to the Agriculture Canada. A forecast 43% increase in seeded area in Canada to 420,000 acres is the primary source for the increase, says Stan Skrypetz, Pulse and Special Crops Analyst with Agriculture Canada's Market Analysis Division, Research and Analysis Directorate, Strategic Policy Branch in Winnipeg, Manitoba. "Assuming normal abandonment and trend yields, (Canadian) production is forecast to increase by 32% to 155,000 MT. Supply is forecast to decrease by 14% to 265,000 MT as sharply lower carry-in stocks more than offset the increase in production. "Exports are forecast to remain stable and carry-out stocks are expected to decrease further, with a stocks-to-use ratio of 36%. The average price is forecast to increase from 2006-2007 because of the lower supply. The main factor to watch is precipitation during the growing and harvest periods," Skrypetz said.
