India Boosts Sugar QuotaNEW DELHI - Jun 1/07 - SNS -- The Indian government increased the quarterly quota of non-levy sugar for April, 2007 to June, 2007 from 3.8 to 4.1 million metric tons (MT). This has been done in view the summer demand for sugar. Accordingly, the non-levy sugar quota for the month of June, 2007 has been increased to 1.6 million MT from 1.3 million MT. The sugar released for the month of June, 2007 is required to be sold within the month. The higher non-levy quota is expected to maintain the retail prices of sugar in the open market at reasonable level.
