Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Jun 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for Saturday Isolated to scattered showers about the east coast. Isolated afternoon showers developing over the eastern interior and central interior. Possible local thunder in the afternoon over the central interior. Fine elsewhere. Moderate to fresh SE/E winds over most of the tropics. Mostly light to moderate S/SE winds elsewhere. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The large high south of the Great Australian Bight will remain anchored in the area until the end of next week. The high will continue to direct SE winds across Qld and these winds will direct showers onto most of the east coast well into next week. An upper trough will move across southern Qld on Sunday and generate scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over southern inland Qld. Some rain areas may occur with this trough near the southern inland border. This trough will move out of the state overnight Sunday so showers will again become isolated over the eastern interior. Another more major upper trough system will move into south-eastern Australia during Sunday and Monday and will then move northwards and then eastwards across NSW and far southern Qld during the following three to four days. The upper trough will generate a cloud and rain band over Qld from late Tuesday onwards which will finally clear the state very late in the week. So rain areas can be expected to develop initially over central and north-west Qld and then move across the south-east and south-east tropics mid to late week. Winds will freshen and shift S'ly over the south-east of the state late in the week as a trough and low develops off the far southern coast in response to the upper trough. Temperatures will remain near average by day and slightly above average by night over the tropics and near the east --- STAT News Service
