Myanmar Pulse Exports Surge in AprilVANCOUVER - May 30/07 - SNS -- Pulse exports from Myanmar surged in April, more than doubling year earlier activity to reach 233,490 metric tons (MT). Most of the increase stemmed from strong demand from India for pulses, reports the U.S. agricultural attache for the country. "Strong demand from India has been fueled by the impact of adverse weather conditions on their beans and pulse production. "This demand is expected to continue over the next few months as trade sources report the State Trading Corp from India has invited new tenders to import 20,000 tons in pulses from the current crop for delivery in June and July." Matpe accounted for 81% of the total exports, followed by Toor Whole (Pigeon pea) (8%) and Mung bean (5%).
