Market Debates Aussie Pea ForecastVANCOUVER - May 25/07 - SNS -- Debate over the potential size of the 2007-08 field pea harvest in Australia picked up steam over the past week, with armchair producers in Canada criticizing that country's forecasts. Pulse Australia's industry members report they expect a 504,000 metric ton (MT) field pea harvest from 325,000 hectares this year. One Canadian observer said reaching that number would be "a stretch" because 100,000 MT would come from the state of Western Australia, which they are told "continues to be extremely dry". For his part, Malcolm Bartholomaeus, writing in Australia's Callum Downs Commodity News Grain Report, cautioned market participants outside the country from second guessing what kind of pulse harvests his country will experience this year.
