Turkey Hatchery Activity Rises
WASHINGTON - May 14/07 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity in the United States increased during April, according to the latest USDA data.
Turkey eggs in incubators on May 1, 2007, in the United States totaled 32.5 million, up 3% from May 1, 2006. Eggs in incubators were up 3% from the April 1, 2007 total of 31.7 million eggs.
Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down 8% at 4,634,000; West North Central up 7% at 12,752,000; North and South Atlantic up 5% at 10,935,000; and South Central and West down 3% at 4,208,000 eggs in incubators.
Turkey poults hatched during April 2007, in the United States totaled 26.4 million, up 7% from April 2006. Poults hatched were down 2% from March 2007 total of 26.8 million poults.
