French Pea Exports Surge In MarchVANCOUVER - May 14/07 - SNS -- Field pea export from France surged in March, more than doubling the previous month's total and posting a major advance over year earlier levels, according to the latest trade data assembled by the Union Nationale Interprofessionnelle des Plantes Riches en Proteines (UNIP). The jump in port clearances for the month is bringing this season's field pea exports within shooting distance of matching last season. Clearances for the July to March period total 314,758 metric tons (MT), just 4% behind the 317,985 MT shipped during the nine-month period of the 2005-06 marketing campaign. However, clearances during the closing quarter of the 2005-06 marketing year were almost 120,000 MT -- a target which is unlikely to be achieved without a good volume of peas going to the Indian subcontinent. It is worth noting, India bought 39,322 MT of French peas during the closing quarter of the 2005-06 marketing campaign. Subscribers can read the full text of the article by Clicking here
