New Crop Feed Pea Supply WorriesVANCOUVER - May 4/07 - SNS -- Spot European feed pea markets continued to firm during the past week, with advances recorded for Belgium, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Worries about the impact record temperatures in April had on developing crops remains a background issue in markets. France recorded its hottest April since at least 1950. While some rains were received during the week, more is badly needed. Problems were also reported in the Ukraine and other eastern European countries. Some areas had already been suffering from drought like conditions before a mid-week frost further damaged emerging crops. Feed ingredient markets are concerned with the possibility field pea yields will drop below normal this year. In combination with a smaller overall area and strong import demand from the Indian subcontinent, users are contemplating reducing or removing feed peas from their mixes.
