Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY No warnings. STATE FORECAST for the rest of Wednesday and Thursday Fine over most of the state, apart from isolated showers about far northern Cape York Peninsula. Some high cloud about the far south and again in the southwest on Thursday with little or no rain expected. Light winds inland with warmer northerlies developing over the interior on Thursday ahead of a westerly change in the southwest. Mostly moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Conditions will remain fine across much of the state through the remainder of this week and into the weekend. The only exception will be some very isolated showers about the Torres Strait area in a moderate SE airstream. Some isolated showers may develop further south along the coast north of about Cairns overnight Friday and early Saturday morning and again early Sunday as the southeasterlies along this part of the coast gradually freshen. The surface trough that will move across south-western Queensland during Thursday will continue to move northeast and extend from the northwest to southeast through the state by the end of the week. Unfortunately no precipitation is expected from this feature as it progresses east due to minimal low level moisture across inland parts. However, temperatures are expected to remain relatively warm across much of Queensland, especially east of the surface trough where mostly northerly winds will prevail. Maximum temperatures will cool --- STAT News Service
