Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary
A severe weather warning for localised damaging wind has been issued for the
Alpine region.
Gale warnings are current for Victorian coastal waters west of Wilsons
Promontory.
A strong wind warning is current  for Port Phillip and Western Port.
Current Weather Situation and Future Developments
A weakening cold front over southern Victoria will slide southeastwards during
today. A second, stronger, front will move from south of Western Australia to
cross Victoria on Thursday. Conditions will stabilise somewhat during Friday as
a ridge of high pressure starts to develop across New South Wales and northern
parts of South Australia. Another cold front will cross Bass Strait on Saturday.
Victoria
Wednesday:    Isolated showers over southern and mountain areas, more widespread
in the southwest. Fine over the northern plains.  A cool to mild and mostly
cloudy day with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds, strong to
locally gale force in the Alpine region.
UV Index:     4 [moderate] decreasing to 2 [low] under cloud.
Thursday:     Showers increasing from the west, mostly in southern and mountain
areas with isolated thunderstorms.  Mild, fresh to strong northerly winds
shifting cooler gusty northwest to westerly.
Friday:       Isolated showers in southern and mountain districts, more
widespread on the southwest coast. Fine on the northern plains and in the far
east. Cool to mild.
Saturday:     Fine apart from morning fog or drizzle about the northeast ranges
