Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 1/07 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY No warnings. STATE FORECAST for Wednesday Fine over most of the state, apart from isolated showers about far northern Cape York Peninsula. Chilly morning over the SE interior with some light frost possible about higher parts of the Darling Downs. Mostly light winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes, tending moderate SE to E over the far north. EXTENDED OUTLOOK A series of weakening upper troughs will produce pulses of high cloud into the far southwest, but very little if any rainfall is expected due to the dry air in the low levels. The main upper trough and its associated surface cold front will move east from far southwestern Queensland on Thursday morning to lie from the Longreach area to the southeast coast by late Friday into Saturday morning. Although this system will induce some weak instability over the southeast corner on Friday afternoon, it appears that the airmass will be too dry to support any shower or thunderstorm activity. Daytime temperatures to the east of the front will climb to well above average for the time of year, reaching the mid to high 30s through the central west and northwest, but should then drop to only slightly above average following the frontal passage. Winds will freshen a little about the far north during Wednesday as a weak trough moves west across the Coral Sea. In the far south, winds will also freshen and tend northerly as the front approaches on Thursday and Friday. A relatively weak southerly change should reach waters south of about Fraser Island on Saturday, and this may be accompanied by a few coastal --- STAT News Service
